(thisisthewestcountry) Pupils and staff at Dunster First School were joined by parents, carers and governors for a special ‘wellie-walk’ to help raise money for UNICEF’s work in the country of Guyana.
The event was part of the charity’s annual Day for Change fundraiser, which saw the group walk up Grabbist Hill before returning to school via Conduit Lane, which has a stream of water running over it from a well at the top of the track.
The idea of the walk was to give children a chance to experience walking along a flooded path.
All participants paid £1 to take part in the event, which raised just over £150.
The children also attended a special assembly where they found out about the challenges facing Guyana, such as severe droughts and flooding.
Head teacher Peter Hoyland said: “During the week the children gained a real insight into what life is like in Guyana and how the money that they raised by taking part in the walk can help improve other children’s lives.
