COLOMBO, (Reuters) – Ramnaresh Sarawan scored an attractive 123 including five sixes to help West Indies to a 61-run victory over Kenya in their World Cup warmup match today.
Sri Lanka, one of the tournament’s co-hosts, overwhelmed the Netherlands by 156 runs.
Sarwan rescued West Indies from 65 for four to steer his team to their eventual 253 for eight.
Pace bowlers Kemar Roach and Adrian Russell then took seven wickets between them in Kenya’s 192 all out from 45.3 overs.
Sarwan has returned to the West Indies one-day side aftrer he was dropped last year because of fitness problems and indifferent domestic form.
Sri Lanka opener Tillakaratne Dilshan made a run-a-ball 78 in an opening stand of 117 with Upul Tharanga while Thilan Samaraweera, Chamara Silva and Chamara Kapugedera scored half-centuries in the 1966 champions’ imposing 351 for five.
The Dutch could muster only 195 from 47.3 overs in reply with Dilhara Fernando taking four for 43.
