Prime Minister Samuel Hinds on Friday met a team of youths from Student Task Force (STF) who are visiting the country for a three-week period to work on several service projects, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported.
The 16 volunteers are part of a year-long educational programme consisting of training and activities focused on transcending the barriers between people of different religions, races, and backgrounds to further the vision of building “One Family under God”.
STF participants are primarily high school graduates between the ages of 18 and 21 who defer college enrollment for one year or take a gap year during their studies. Its motto is “Generation of peace at your service”
GINA said that the team is comprised of 16 members from various countries including Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, United States of America, Canada and New Zealand.
According to member of STF, Reverend John Gehring, some of the services would include planting of mangroves through the President’s Youth Award: Republic of Guyana (PYARG), working with Habitat for Humanity, and the Central Islamic Trust.
He said that the team has so far been working with children and orphans from Joshua house, while simultaneously engaging in volunteer construction and painting at various facilities.
