An early morning boat accident in the Pomeroon River has left one man dead.
Dead is 64-year-old Ishri Persaud called ‘Rudolph’ and ‘Lar’ of Grant Danielstown, Lower Pomeroon.
Stabroek News understands that at around 4:30 this morning Persaud was being transported by his son to Georgetown when their boat was run over by another boat. The boat capsized and Persaud’s body was later pulled from the water. It is understood that Persaud was on his way to Georgetown to conduct his fish trading business when the tragedy occurred.
There has been a series of fatal river accidents recently and questions have been raised about the steps the Maritime Administration Department has been taking to investigate these and have remedial measures applied.
