Lucky escape: Several schoolchildren escaped unscathed on Thursday morning when the car, HB 4656, they were travelling in ended up in the trench at First Street, Alexander Village. A relative of the driver of the car informed Stabroek News that he was negotiating a turn on the road when the car skidded and ended up in the trench. He said the children and the driver were pulled out and returned home. None had to be taken to hospital. When Stabroek News arrived on the scene the car was being removed from the trench by persons aided by a Bobcat machine. After the car was extricated several book bags and lunch packs were removed from the trunk of the car. In this composite photograph the car is being hauled out of the trench onto the road.
