Retired police commissioner Henry Fraser passed away early yesterday morning at the age of 87, almost three days after complaining of feeling unwell.
His wife Cynthia told Stabroek News at their Lot 213 Duncan Street, Lamaha Gardens home that around 11 pm on Sunday, Fraser who joined the force in 1941, was rushed to the St Joseph Mercy Hospital.
She said that her husband was not ill but had complained of feeling unwell last Friday. She said that at that time he was talking and was his usual self. Cynthia recalled asking Fraser if he was feeling pain but he replied in the negative.
The composed woman said her niece Brenda was preparing for the 6 am visiting hour at the hospital when they received a call from the institution informing them that he had just passed away.
Fraser, she said, died some time after 5 am.
Speaking briefly on her husband’s career, she said he served as police commissioner from 1973 to 1977. He retired in 1977.
After leaving the force, she added, he concentrated on a farm he had on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
Cynthia remembered Fraser as a loving respectful man who never quarrelled or fought with her.
Meanwhile, Brenda who had known Fraser for more than 30 years said he was a “nice man”. She said that last Friday he was going to see the doctor but later decided against it.
Fraser also leaves to mourn six children and ten grandchildren, who reside overseas.
