Three schools earned first place in the week-long rivalry of the Children’s Mashramani Competition held on Friday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Five schools competed in the physical display contest in two categories; pyramids and combination. The winners are now set to compete in the national competition set for Thursday and Friday at the National Cultural Centre.
Coordinator of the Georgetown Mashramani Competition 2011 Jennifer Chapman said that there was no physical display competition last year but the students who participated on Friday are all very talented. “My heart felt well when I saw the 6 to 11 years category doing their physical display,” she said. Chapman said she is looking forward to more participation from schools in the future.
She said too physical display is an important feature and as such schools should put more focus on this aspect of education.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the event, Travis Chase, gave the students a taste of what this year’s children’s road march would be like as he performed a dance, urging and urged the pupils on with responses of excited screams and applause.
