Plaisance Secondary School and Marian Academy Secondary School were the first two teams in winners’ row on the opening day of the United Insurance Inter-School Mashramani Basketball Competition.
The St. Stanislaus College organized event tipped off with Marian Academy again winning a nail biter against Charlestown Secondary 34 – 33.
Marian was led by Tequain Vieira who scored 17 points. He was supported by Dale Beresford who pitched in with eight points. Kayo Dover and Mortland Ward with 13 and 12 points respectively were the top scorers for the losing side.
Later in the day, Plaisance contested a high scoring encounter with School of the Nations and walked away victorious with a two-point margin (52 – 50).
Even though Jonathon Pooran and Dylon Walker contributed scores of 17 and 16 for School of the Nations it was not enough to stop the all round performance from Plaisance that led them to victory.
Nikkoloi Smith top scored for the eventual victors with 16 points while being supported by Nduka Horatio and Irvin Nurse who contributed 11 and 10 points respectively.
The competition continues today with host St. Stanislaus College locking horns with Queens College in the opening match at 3:30pm. Marian Academy then faces Brickdam Secondary School and School of the Nations clash with St. Rose’s High School.
