Colombo, Sri Lanka – Dwayne Bravo has been appointed Vice Captain of the West Indies team for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup and the world-rated all rounder is looking to make a significant contribution to the side’s success.
The 27-year-old will be playing in his second World Cup and as one of the senior players in the side he plans to lead from the front and help drive the team’s success.
“I am happy to be performing the role of Vice Captain. It is always an honour to represent the West Indies on the world stage and as usual I will give my all for the team. I have been Vice Captain before so it’s simply a matter of continuing to make a contribution to the team and to support the captain and allow the team to benefit from my experience,” Bravo said.
“Anytime I play in a team I always believe we have a good chance of winning. It comes down to how much you want it. As a team we are really looking forward to this tournament and we are focussed on exactly what we have to do.”
The Windies talisman added: “This tournament is very important. It’s the World Cup and all around the world people will be watching to see who will come out on top. We would like to do well for our fans try to lift West Indies cricket again. We have a number of players in the team who have played a lot of cricket in the sub-continent and this is good for our team. We have been here for a little while now as we try to get acclimatised to the conditions once more.
“Our team is balanced with quality players in each department. This is good for the team and once we get our ‘A’ game together we will be able to challenge any other team. We back ourselves and we believe in our ability. We know we can do it.”
The Cricket World Cup bowls off on Saturday with Bangladesh facing India in Dhaka. The tournament will run until April 2 with the final in Mumbai. West Indies have been drawn in Group B alongside India, South Africa, England, Bangladesh, Ireland and the Netherlands.
