Investigators have arrested an associate of the man who allegedly murdered Natalie Loncke, at Norton Street, Georgetown on Saturday, a source said.
This newspaper understands that the man was taken into custody some time on Tuesday. The man, this newspaper was told, had been taking food to the murder suspect at his hideout.
A relative of Loncke, speaking with Stabroek News via telephone last evening, said that they learnt from police connections that the man had been taken into custody. However, since taking a statement on Sunday from the woman’s daughter Renatha Craig, who witnessed the attack, police have not been in direct contact with relatives.
The suspect has contacted Loncke’s relatives. The man, the source said, has indicated that he wished to turn himself in but was afraid to do so.
However, when questioned about this Loncke’s relative said that they were unaware of any such contact being made with the family. “If he has contacted the family then I am not aware of the fact,” the relative said.
The relative stressed that investigators had assured them they were doing everything possible to find the accused.
A row between Loncke and her lover turned violent on Saturday night when the 41-year-old nursery school teacher was stabbed in the head. She died a short time after at the Georgetown Public Hospital. Her 19-year-old daughter Craig was lashed across the face with a bar.
Reports had said that the suspect fled the scene on his bicycle.
