Dog breeder Sherwin “Tookie” Fiedtkou died from shock and haemorrhage due a single gunshot wound, a post-mortem performed yesterday by government pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh found.
Four days after he was shot dead as he was about to visit a friend at North Ruimveldt, police are no closer to solving this case. Crime Chief Seelall Persaud, when contacted yesterday, told Stabroek News that there is still no information about a possible motive. The identity of the shooter is also still unknown, several police sources say.
Meanwhile, Fiedtkou’s friend, who was one of six persons arrested several hours after Monday’s shooting, was released sometime on Thursday.
The relative who identified himself as the man’s cousin told Stabroek News via telephone that that five other men who were detained by police were released (prior to Thursday) while his cousin remained in the Brickdam lock ups. The man said that those first released included two occupants of a car that had transported the wounded Fiedtkou to the Georgetown hospital after he was shot. The other three are relatives of Fiedtkou’s friend and resided in the same yard with him.
The upset man had said that he could not understand why his cousin was still in police custody before pointing out that no one got a good look at the gunman, whose face was concealed by a hood. He had further explained that after the gunshot rang out just outside his cousin’s yard, persons including his cousin started to run. “No body ain’t get fuh see he (the shooter), they just saying that he wearing a hood. There is no way to identify him. They just see he walk through the alley afterwards,” the man had stressed.
He had told Stabroek News that at that point no body knew that Fiedtkou had been shot until he started hollering for his friend (the detained man) and saying that he had been shot. After being shot, the wounded Fiedtkou ran into his friend’s yard and collapsed in a dark area at the back.
Police had said that Fiedtkou “was found in a yard at North Ruimveldt, Georgetown at about 20:00 hours with a suspected gunshot injury to his abdomen.” He was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital, where he died around ten minutes to midnight while undergoing emergency surgery.
