The Guyana Power and Light Company (GPL) and Banks DIH Limited were among the camps that revealed their Mash Day costumes yesterday as the Minister of Culture Dr Frank Anthony visited several Mashramani camps.
While designer Trevor Rose created costumes for both companies, they are distinct in their symbolic representation of each entity.
On the Main Street Avenue, opposite GPL, revellers were invited to join the GPL band come February 23 so that they could “revel as one.”
Over on Parade Street, later in the evening, costumes for Banks DIH were presented to curious onlookers and Minister Anthony. According to designer Rose, Banks’ theme this year is: “A new blend of success.” He noted that while gold and red were used in last year’s costumes, this year more red is being incorporated into the designs, in a shade that is to represent the company’s focus on its rums.
Meanwhile, Minister Anthony said that this year he is expecting over 30 floats come Mashramani Day and he announced that one band is expected to have over 1,000 revellers.
Anthony said that he was impressed and happy with the creativity shown by participating organisations and how they embraced this year’s theme.
Anthony also visited the Hits and Jam, Digicel and Burrowes’ School of Art camps yesterday.
