The 10/10 softball competition is set to kick off today at Everest Cricket Ground, Carifesta Avenue, from 09:00 hrs and continue at varying venues throughout the country every weekend before a pulsating end at the Guyana National Stadium on April 10.
Minister of Youth Culture & Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony will bowl the first ball to GT&T’s CEO Yog Mahadeo, according to a press release from GT&T’s Assistant Public Relations Officer (APRO), Oscar Clarke.
The jingle for this year’s GT&T’s 10/10 cricket competition goes like this: “Come leh we have a ball, with we bat and ball, let’s jump and celebrate, we believe in happiness, throw your flags up in the air, cause we really must be here, participating, it’s 10/10 we playin’.”
With a record 1,224 teams registered for this year’s edition of the tournament which more than doubles the entries of 2010, 1,015 of the teams being males and 209 females, the tournament is set to feature Caribbean style entertainment with local bands and artistes along with overseas music.
The prizes to be given away by co-sponsors Coca Cola, Vitamalt, Tropical Mist, Impressions, Auto fashion, Cell Phone Shack, Buddy’s Night Club and Kings Jewelry World are said to become more attractive to the teams and spectators during the preliminary round of the tournament.
These sponsors would like to urge the public to support the games at the venues listed in yesterday’s and Wednesday’s editions of Stabroek News.
Meanwhile updates on the tournament can be seen on GT&T’s ‘We linkin’ television programme aired on NCN Channel 11 every Monday at 21:00 hrs or alternatively on the 10/10 Round-up to be aired every Thursday at a time to be announced. 10/10 merchandise, including jerseys will also be on sale at several prominent venues.
