NORTH SOUND, Antigua, CMC – Kyle Corbin came of age, when he collected his maiden first-class hundred for Combined Campuses & Colleges in the WICB Regional first-class championship against Leeward Islands  yesterday.

Corbin stroked 12 fours and one six in 108 from 143 balls in close to 2 ¾ hours, as the CCC, sent in to bat, were dismissed for 286 about half hour before the scheduled close on the opening day of the third round match.

Raymond Reifer hit seven fours and one six in 50 from 80 balls in 110 minutes, Romel Currency scored 35, Kevin McClean made 30, and Carlos Brathwaite got 22.

Gavin Tonge was the most successful Leewards bowler with three wickets for 58 runs from 18 overs.

Justin Athanaze took two for 31 from 11 overs, and Lionel Baker grabbed two for 32 from 13.2 overs.

Leewards reached four without loss from four overs at the close at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.

Corbin anchored the top-half of the CCC batting, after the visitors dipped to 18 for two inside the first hour, after the Leewards new-ball pair of Baker and Tonge removed CCC captain Omar Phillips for four and Kjorn Ottley for a duck.

Corbin, a former Young West Indies vice-captain, joined Romel Currency, and carried CCC to 106 for two at lunch before they added 88 for the second wicket.

Currency was lbw to Baker for 35 after the interval to leave CCC 106 for two, but Reifer joined Corbin, and they put on 75 for the fourth wicket.

But Corbin fell to Tonge after reaching his milestone, and the CCC slumped from 181 for three to 220 for six at tea.

After the break, the CCC required a 40-run stand for the eighth wicket between McClean and Brathwaite to reach a respectable total.

Both sides made one change, For Leewards, Jahmar Hamilton came in to replace Devon Thomas, who will be winging his way to the World Cup to replace the injured Carlton Baugh Jr, and for CCC, Gilford Moore made way for Ottley.

The home team are at the bottom of the eight-team ladder with three points, after they lost their opening match against the England Lions by an innings and 120 runs on home soil at Warner Park in St. Kitts, and this was followed by a no-result in the previous round, when rain ravaged the Bourda Oval in the Guyana capital of Georgetown for four straight days, and not a ball was bowled in the match.

The CCC suffered a defeat in the last round, when Trinidad & Tobago prevailed by two wickets in the contest at the UWI Sports & Physical Education Complex in St. Augustine, Trinidad. But they are fourth on the ladder with 12 points, following a 33-run victory over Windward Islands on home soil at the Three Ws Oval in Barbados.

Leewards have dominated the series between the two sides, since the CCC’s entry into the competition three years ago. They have won two of the four matches contested, and gained first innings points in the other two games, which have ended in draws.
