The parents of one-year-old Ronetta Robertson are crying out for justice after their child was burnt on the leg with an iron by a relative.
Leroy Legall, the father of the child, said the incident happened two Saturdays ago at their Sparendaam Housing Scheme home. He said the child’s mother had left the home to go to a shop a short distance away and when she got back, she noticed that the child’s leg had been seared with what appeared to be an iron. She then questioned her sister, who resides in the lower flat, about what had happened to Ronetta, but the woman denied knowing anything. However, when the police were called in, the woman reportedly changed her story.
The man said that when the matter was taken to the police, he was advised to drop the matter or both sides would be charged.
He said the police said the case would be difficult to prove because no one saw the woman burn the child.
According to Legall, some time ago his reputed wife’s sister had found a mark on her three-year-old son and accused them of burning the child. She said that there has been an ongoing dispute between his reputed wife’s sister and his family.
The man said that since the incident, the woman has shown no remorse for her actions. “She keep saying ‘do for do is nah obeah’ and that she should a bun she on she face,” the father said. He said he will continue to pursue the matter until he gets some sort of justice.
The child was yesterday taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) for treatment, where she was treated and sent away.
