The five nominees vying to be the PNCR’s presidential candidate are actively working with the Accreditation Committee to ensure that there is transparency in the process to determine who will lead the party into the next elections.
Responding to a question about what is being done to ensure transparency in the election process in the light of past allegations of rigging at previous congresses, party leader Robert Corbin said that a special Accreditation Committee had been set up to deal with these issues. Corbin said he was not part of this committee, but stated that the five nominees are working with this body to establish the guidelines and procedures for the process. “The procedures that have been put in place will see the candidates being part of the decision making process,” Corbin said.
Corbin said a press conference will be held on Thursday to provide information on the process ahead of the special congress which is set for Saturday.
The five nominees are attorney-at-law James Bond, former army chief of staff David Granger, former finance minister Carl Greenidge, former minister under the PNC government Dr Faith Harding and party vice chairman Basil Williams.
The nominees recently participated in a month-long series of public meetings which allowed them to make their pitch to members and supporters.
