(BBC) The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has restated the UN’s desire for “the immediate and complete elimination of the colonial system”.
He did so in a speech to the world body’s committee on decolonization.
The committee reviews the cases of the world’s 16 remaining non-self-governing territories, six of which are in the Caribbean.
Mr Ban said that those territories are “awaiting constructive, results-oriented initiatives.”
He added that such “colonial situations are completely outdated” and called for “renewed vigour and creativity” to address the issue.
