Neil Gordon put on a terrific all-round performance which earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the finals award in the United Insurance Ltd Mashramani Inter-School Basketball Competition which wrapped up at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
St Stanislaus College humbled President’s College 41 – 38 to take top honours in the tournament which was organized by the Alumni group of St. Stanislaus. Prior to that, Marian Academy defeated Plaisance 49 – 41 in the third place showdown.
In the finals, Saints led from the start and they were the stronger and much more composed side on the night although they had some players who lost their composure by being casual at regular intervals. President’s College was the better side when it came down to circulating the ball.
Gordon contributed a sterling 14-point performance while President’s College was led by tournament MVP Nyamebekerie Bacchus who top scored with 15.
Saints’ path to the final was a relatively easy one; they came out on top of their group by defeating Queen’s College and Plaisance Secondary School and again defeated Plaisance in the semi-final round.
The third place showdown saw Tequain Vieira and Dale Beresford top scoring for Marian Academy with 16 and 13 points respectively against Plaisance who had Nikkoli Smith producing an attractive 22 points which proved futile in the end.
