At the Weldaad Court on Thursday, Magistrate Roby Benn remanded Ashton Lambert, 19, who was charged with murdering a man during a drinking spree.
The court heard that on Tuesday, February 22, Lambert, a fisherman of McRae Street, Rosignol, reportedly dealt Bharrat Thatpaul, 33, a single stab wound to his back. Lambert was not required to plead to the capital offence. The case has been transferred to the Blairmont Court for March 28 for report.
The incident occurred at around 2:30 am at the Rosignol Stelling, where the men had been drinking in separate groups. Thatpaul collapsed and died before receiving treatment while Lambert, who fled the scene, was later arrested at his home.
A post-mortem examination performed on the remains of Thatpaul proved that he died as a result of perforation of the lungs and aorta, due to the stab wound.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Donna Grant-Fraser objected to bail on the grounds of the nature, gravity and the seriousness of the charge. Lambert was represented by attorney Joel Edmond.
