I note with considerable alarm and interest that my good friend – and he is my good friend – Dr Steve Surujbally, Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission, has publicly taken to task aspects of the satirical production, the ‘Link Show’ (‘Best Link Show in years, but…’ SN, Feb 24). I don’t understand why he has taken up the government ministers during this elections year as Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission. The least he could do is to be completely neutral on political issues at this time.
Beyond that, I would ask him a straight question: would he have admitted any of his close relatives to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, for medical treatment? Yes! There are dedicated doctors and nurses who are hardworking, and highly professional, but for reasons that we need not go into at this time, their professionalism often is compromised by the political directorate, who seem to be all powerful and all knowing.
If we get an answer from Dr Surujbally to my question, that would be a closure to this interesting, but worrisome intervention.
Perhaps the ‘Link Show’ should have lampooned personalities and issues like the One Laptop Per Family, Roger Khan, and the bizarre contracts, etc.
