The Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facility in collaboration with the Lions Club of Corriverton will stage a grand one-day horse race meet on March 6.
A number of the country’s top horses as well as horses from overseas are expected for the event, which will have a total payout of $3 million in cash and prizes.
The feature event, sponsored by ANSA McAL, which will see horses competing in the E Class and Lower category, will be contested by local and overseas horses such as Prince Charming, Delmar Gold, The Message, Fresh Prospect, and Gold Plated and Harry Dream, both of Trinidad and Tobago.
Organisers are expecting a sizable turnout for the event since a number of horses have already been registered for the race meet. Registration closes on Wednesday and can be done at the Ryan Crawford Turf Club’s office at No. 13 Village, Hermitage, Corentyne and at No. 19 Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
In addition to the feature event races are also scheduled for the G and Lower, H and Lower, I 2 and Lower, I 3 and Lower, three-year-old Guyana Bred, J and Lower and L and Lower categories.
The races will be run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority and owners are asked to have their horses properly entered by paying at least $2,000 of the entrance fee on one race. This amount is not refundable unless owners/trainers provide a certificate from a qualified veterinary officer, in the event that horses sustain injuries prior to race day.
All two-year-old horses eligible for racing must present a veterinary certificate at the time of entry to confirm their age and fitness.
Owners can also have their horses entered through Bobby Vaughn (624-6788), Noresa Saul (333-0301/3330290) and Shawn Asrafali (339-3634/678-2291).
