The decomposing body of an elderly woman was yesterday morning discovered at her home at Freeman Street, East La Penitence.
Olive Thomas, 93, was living at the home alone since last June when her 56-year old son, Owen Jordan’s decomposing body was also found at the family’s home at Lot 279 Freeman Street, East La Penitence.
According to a neighbour, the elderly woman was last seen around Thursday morning at the home and may have passed away shortly after because of the state of the body when it was discovered yesterday.
They noted that a relative would usually visit the woman each weekend to check on her and around 7:10 yesterday the man suspected that something was amiss when he called but got no response. Thomas was later discovered lying face down on the floor of the top flat home.
Her son, Jordan, was her only surviving child since her second child had passed away few years ago. His body was found several days after he reportedly died.
The home where the woman lived is in dispute, a relative noted yesterday, since Thomas was given rights to the building while another relative had rights to the land on which the house stands. There were also unsuccessful attempts to relocate the elderly woman to the Palms Senior Citizens home on Brickdam.
The police were yesterday morning notified of the incident and the elderly woman’s body was subsequently taken to the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour in the city.
