Former national champion Wendell Meusa ruled on the senior side while rising junior chess player Rashad Hussain emerged victorious in the junior category of the Demerara Distillers Limited/Topco Juice Republic Anniversary Rapid Chess Tournament held yesterday at the Kei-Shar’s Sports Club, Hadfield Street.
According to Tournament Director of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF), Irshad Mohamed, Meusa ended with 6.5 points while Hussain accumulated 5 points.
Meusa’s matches included a win against Hussain, while his only draw was against Learie Webster who ended in second place 5.5 points.
Alexander Duncan continued his improvement by placing third with five points while Mohamed was fourth with four points.
In the junior category Raan Motilall was second with five points and Saeed Ali third with four and one half points.
Anthony Drayton placed fourth with four points. Also scoring four points was reigning junior national champ Ron Motilall who ended in fifth place.
