Eyewitnesses reported to Stabroek News that 70-year-old Carlos Chandra was riding along Drysdale Street near the Ketley Primary School on a bicycle when Cromwell and accomplice came up. The two youths were also on a bicycle.
Reports are that the duo held Chandra who had just collected his pension at knife point and relieved him of two gold rings and a gold chain. They then pushed him into a nearby gutter and escaped.
Two motorcycle policemen who were in the area chased after the two and caught up with Cromwell in an alleyway at Hunter Street, Albouystown and in his bid to elude capture he was shot in the thigh.
Cromwell’s alleged accomplice escaped.
Upset relatives gathered at the hospital arguing that the teen was mistakenly shot and had done nothing wrong.
