(De Ware Tijd) – Democracy, the constitutional state and protection of human rights are important priorities on which the United States of America (USA) will keep judging Suriname. That is why this world power wants to collaborate more closely in these areas. This is the message US President Barack Obama gave to Ambassador Subhas Mungra who presented his credentials to the US President on 23 February. He also stressed that the benefits of free trade should not be lost sight of. After all, America is one of Suriname’s most important trade partners. Ambassador Mungra stressed to Obama that Suriname wants to continue the good bilateral relations with the economic super power. Mungra also pointed out the interest Suriname has in encouraging peace, democracy and security in the western Hemisphere and especially its own region.
