Just shy of a week after he reportedly walked through the gates of the Georgetown Prison, the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) on Sunday issued a wanted bulletin for teenaged murder accused Eddie Williams.
Up to press time last evening, Williams, 18, had not been apprehended and it is unclear if members of the public had supplied the GPS or the police with any useful information.
According to the bulletin, Williams was last known to be living at Lot 51 Fourth Street, Alberttown, Georgetown. He is five feet, seven inches tall, of mixed race and weighs 130 pounds.
Williams, the bulletin, said escaped from the prison approximately between “04:00 hrs and 06:30hrs” last Monday. He was a prisoner on remand on the charge of murdering Jermaine Jones.
Anyone knowing the whereabouts of the escaped prisoner is asked to contact the GPS on 226-5855 or 226-5856, or call 911 or the nearest police station.
Williams reportedly committed the murder on November 30, at a Ruimzeight, West Coast Demerara address.
Following the escape, Jones’ relatives had questioned why a wanted bulletin had not been issued for the teen. They also said that they were convinced that there was more to the escape than was being revealed.
Sources have since told this newspaper that it is suspected that the prisoner, who worked in the prison kitchen, walked through the gates during a heavy downpour.
It was also revealed that a prison warden, who was manning a watchtower a short distance away, did not spot the prisoner as he was fleeing. The warden has since been placed under close arrest.
Prison Director Dale Erskine would only say that the matter is being investigated.
