Nineteen-year-old Tiffany Clarke who is accused of murdering her female lover Sonobia James was yesterday remanded to prison after making an appearance before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The allegation against Clarke is that on February 26 at the Red Dragon Night Club, she murdered James.
The teenager of 67 Hunter Street, Albouystown was not required to plead to the capital offence of murder when it was read to her at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
In presenting the facts of the case, prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that on the day in question, the accused and James, who shared an intimate relationship, were at the nightclub when James observed the teen talking to another woman.
Telford said James approached Clarke and began questioning her about the other woman she was speaking to.
The court then heard from the prosecutor that an argument ensued between the two women which later saw the accused whipping out a knife with which she stabbed James.
James collapsed to the ground and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Attorney George Thomas who represented the accused requested an early date for the commencement of the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the matter.
George said his client was remorseful for her actions and is “experiencing overwhelming pains over losing her partner.”
According to the lawyer, the two had been together for the past five years in a relationship which saw constant abuse in various forms meted out to Clarke.
Thomas said his client has endured physical, emotional, psychological and verbal abuse over the years. Counsel said his client was being abused on the night of the unfortunate accident.
After listening to the case, the magistrate informed a teary-eyed Clarke that she would be remanded to prison until March 28 for reports and fixtures.
James, 25, a mother of two of Rasville Housing Scheme was stabbed to the neck around 03:15 hours.
