Monty Blake, of Richmond Village Essequibo Coast, has been charged with dangerous driving death of a 16-year-old boy at La Belle Alliance, Essequibo Coast.
Police said in a press release yesterday that Blake, 52, pleaded not guilty to the charge that he caused the death of Manlick Matthews on February 24.
He was remanded to prison until March 15 on the charge, police added.
Blake, who made appearances before Magistrate Lerone Daley at the Charity and Anna Regina Magistrates’ Courts, was also charged with being an unlicensed hire car driver, breach of insurance, failing to render assistance after an accident, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was fined a total of $190,000.
Police had said in a press release that the victim Matthews and two others were on a pedal cycle around 5 am, proceeding along the roadway, when a motor vehicle collided with them.
Matthews, of Danielstown, Essequibo, sustained injuries and was taken to the Suddie Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
