Off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth who played a crucial role in T&T winning their last regional first class clash against Windwards says his team can go all the way and win the title this season.
Jaggernauth grabbed 3/27, including the wicket of topscorer Andre Fletcher for 67 as the Windwards, chasing 224 runs for victory, stumbled to 172 all out. The win put T&T in second position on 33 points, three shy of leaders Jamaica.
The Red Force next goes into action on March 11 against the Leeward Islands at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Balmain, Couva. Jaggernauth thinks the experience of playing at the NCC on so many occasions will assist the T&T boys tremendously against the Leewards. “The NCC is our base and we will be looking to got out there and take charge from early in that Leewards clash. The boys are really happy at the moment, as they team is winning and they want to do even better for the fans here.”
The pitch at the NCC has been a bit on the slow side and has assisted the batsmen in the past however Jaggernauth will be hoping the bowlers can get something out of it this time around. “We are hoping to have a pitch that will give us something to work with. The pitch there is normally a batting paradise but we need a fair pitch because we need to have a chance of defeating this Leewards team. We have targeted them for full points and we are going to come hard at them.”
If the pitch does not play well, Amit would have a few choice words with his dad Rukam as he is the curator at the ground.
Looking at his performances this season Jaggernauth said :”I think I have been bowling well this season without much luck. The pitches have been a different story but I am satisfied with my performance so far. No one in our team has gotten a five-wicket haul and this tells of how competitive the bowling dapartment is. Everyone has been among the wickets.”
Jaggernauth has taken 11 wickets in the four matches at an average of 34.00.
