The Ministry of Culture launched the latest addition to the Guyana Classics Collection, titled Hearing Slaves Speak on Wednesday at the Umana Yana.
In his address Minister Dr Frank Anthony noted that the launch was timely as the world is observing Inter-national Year of People of African Descent this year.
The minister also encouraged young writers to contact the ministry for assistance in getting their pieces published locally and in the region, a press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said.
He also called on established writers to write more children’s literature based on Guyanese culture.
In his review of the novel, Director of Culture Dr James Rose said the author researched over 92 cases filed by slaves against their masters in the Berbice area, noting that the information had been documented in the National Archives.
