(De Ware Tijd) — The informal sector in Suriname is booming. From 2005 till 2009, it made an increasingly growing part of the gross domestic product (bbp). According to Finance Minister Wonny Boedhoe, it even reached 20.8% in 2009. In 2005 the percentage was 18.2. These data are laid down in the financial note 2011 that was presented to Parliament. In 2006, the informal sector had an estimated share of more than 40% in employment. In this, the agrarian sector had not been included.
