The Lusignan Golf Club will tee off its Junior Development programme even as the senior members of the club battle for top honours in the Kissoon Group of Companies sponsored Medal Play tournament today.
Starting at 9:30 this morning 12 young people will receive free golf lessons to be conducted by coaches of the Club. The sessions will run every Saturday from 09:30 to 11:30 and the students will be exposed to theoretical teaching, rules of the game, the history of golf, etiquette and practical sessions.
LGC officials said the object of the programme was to attract a number of young golfers to play the game as a means of increasing the membership of the club and interest in the sport locally.
Several corporate sponsors have offered their support to the programme.
In the meantime, Kissoon Group of Companies is sponsoring this week’s tournament starting at 12:30 hours.
Chairman Hemraj Kissoon, a long standing and highly respected member and a former president, has supported the club through thick and thin.
The format is Medal Play with prizes for lowest first three net scores, best gross and nearest to the pin.
The course is returning to playable conditions after two weeks of extreme flooding so a good turnout is expected, Club Secretary William Walker said. According to Walker, Kissoon will raffle a reclining chair and present a goat to be curried for after the event so a full turn out of golfers is anticipated.
