The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) will launch its 2011 cricket season with a three-team 20/20 cricket tournament at the No. 69 Ground, Corentyne today.
Public Relations Officer of the Berbice Cricket Board Hilbert Foster disclosed in a release that the tournament is being organised as a tribute to Rohan Kanhai and all players selected must turn up to play as it is compulsory.
The teams will be led by Assad Fudadin, Royston Crandon and Sewnarine Chattergoon and several national players are expected to participate.
The tournament, which is sponsored by MD & Sons Grocery Store of Portuguese Quarter, Port Mourant, is scheduled to begin at 09.30 am and the winning team will receive the Rohan Kanhai Tribute to Heroes trophy.
Players from the New Amsterdam, East Bank and Canje areas are asked to be at Canje turn by 07.45 hours in their club’s coloured uniforms.
West Berbice players and officials are asked to be at Palmyra by 08.00 am, Albion players by the Albion Bridge at 08.15 hours and those from Rose Hall Town and Port Mourant at the Rose Hall Arch by 08.30 hours.
The winning teams will receive cash prizes and trophies while the sponsor and executives of the Berbice Cricket Board will meet both teams before the game.
