Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud has visited injured cane harvester Davekumar Jainauth to assess his recovery and he promised to raise concerns about aspects of the public health system expressed by the worker to Health Minister Dr Leslie Ramsammy, an Agriculture Ministry press release said.
Jainauth, who is attached to the Blairmont Sugar Estate, fell ill while working in the fields on February 15. After he was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital for treatment, his relatives subsequently took him to the Mahaicony and Georgetown hospitals.
However, not satisfied he was taken to a private hospital, where the diagnosis made was similar to the one at the public health institutions, stating that he needed to rest so that his back ailment could heal in the shortest possible time, the release noted.
Meanwhile, Minister Persaud has indicated that the government through the Ministry of Health would address the medical expenses of the injured sugar worker and he would continue to monitor the man’s progress.
