Bishoo is B/ce Cricketer of the Year

Leg-spinner Davendra Bishoo, currently with the West Indies team at the World Cup in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, was Saturday night named Cricketer of the Year at the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) fourth annual awards ceremony.

Bishoo carted off the top award when the county’s top cricketers were rewarded for their outstanding performances last year at the awards ceremony held at State House, New Amsterdam, Saturday evening.

Prior to the presentation of awards the gathering was entertained by a few cultural items and witnessed the launching of the National Communications Network Interzone Under 15 cricket tournament and the Peter Lewis Under 23 Inter-club and female tournaments to officially launch the Berbice cricket season.

Player of the Year awards for 2010 were presented to Shimron Hetmyer (Under 13), Shawn Pereira (Under 15), Lloydel Lewis (Under 17), Harrinarine Chattergoon (Under 19) Steven Latcha (Under 23).

Bishoo, who was awarded Regional Cricketer of the Year and Cricketer of the Year, was not on hand to receive his trophies which were received by a representative.

Bishoo was also identified for the Discipline player and West Indies ‘A’ achievements awards.

Other awards went to Royston Crandon, Inter-county Player of the Year, Shemaine Campbelle, Female Cricketer of the Year, Zaheer Moakan, Umpire of the Year, Adrian Amsterdam,

Inter county Coach of the Year, Winston Smith, Local Coach of the Year, Albion First Division Team of the Year, Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, Club of the Year and Sewnarine Chattergoon, Role Model of the Year.

Assad Fudadin, Brandon Bess, Veerasammy Permaul and Jonathan Foo also received West Indies ‘A’ achievements awards while Tremayne Smartt, Sabrina Munroe and Campbelle were awarded with female West Indies cricketer awards.

Bess also captured the Test Debut award, while Lewis and Nirmala Sewdat received the junior and female Disciplined Players awards respectively.

Meanwhile, the promising players’ awards went to Arif Chan, Akeem Hinds, Parmanand Ramdhan, Kerry Henry and Daniel Lewis.
