The penultimate day of the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) Mashramani Meet produced five records and 41 personal best times at the Castellani Pool, Homestrectch Avenue on Saturday.
Olympian Niall Roberts was the star of the day’s proceedings as he set three new national records in the boys 18 years and over 200m Individual medley (2:21.02); 50m Butterfly (26.66) and 100m Freestyle (53.66) events.
This complemented Roberts PB in the 100m backstroke on Friday, where he finished the race in 1:05.10s.
Junior swimming starlet Britany van Lange, competing in the girls 13 – 14 category, produced the other two record breaking performances in the 100m Freestyle (1:02.28) and 400m Freestyle (4:48.56) events.
On Friday, van Lange scored wins in the 800m freestyle with a time of 10:12:72s, and the 100m backstroke 1:16.95s, with a PB in the latter.
On Friday also Hanibal Gaskin brought first in the boys 13 – 14 800m freestyle in a PB time of 10:46.39s, setting a new record for the event.
Gaskin also placed second in the100m backstroke (1:22.18s) which won by Travis Henry in 1:15.18s.
And, Onika George from the Silver Sharks Aquatic Swim Club, won the 800m freestyle (13:03.45s) and 100m backstroke (1:29.48s) events all in PB timings.
Gabriel Gunby, swimming out of the boys 15 – 17 category, did likewise as George, with his new PBs standing as 9:51.80s in the 800m freestyle and 1:13.07s in the 100m backstroke.
