The Guyana Relief Council (GRC) said it “responded with immediate help” to the persons were left homeless after a blaze gutted four homes at Grove, East Bank Demerara on Saturday.
In a press release the GRC said its representatives interviewed and offered temporary housing at its shelter to all 28 victims present at the time. The Puran family comprising 13 persons and the Ganesh family comprising six persons requested and were provided with mattresses, hygiene kits, baby items and school kits on Saturday.
Other forms of assistance, such as clothing, kitchen utensils and food items for these families were to be delivered yesterday. The GRC also said the Ramkishun family comprising four persons and the James family comprising five persons indicated that they would contact the shelter during the week to finalise the form of assistance needed.
The GRC said for the year it has helped 11 families comprising 52 persons who suffered disasters.
