The reputed husband of Farida ‘Suzie’ Ramdeen, who was found dead in a Houston, East Bank Demerara (EBD) trench on Sunday, is expected to be taken before the court today charged with her murder.
A senior police source told Stabroek News yesterday that the man turned himself in on Saturday and has since confessed to killing Ramdeen. The man, relatives had told Stabroek News, had given police directions to where Ramdeen’s body could be found.
In a press statement issued yesterday police said that a post-mortem examination was conducted on the woman’s body by Government Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh. The pathologist, according to the release, gave the cause of death as “asphyxiation, compression injury to neck and submersion”.
Ramdeen was last seen alive in the company of her reputed husband on Friday evening when they left their Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara home for Georgetown. The man, relatives had said, told them that he was taking Ramdeen to stay with his aunt who lives in the city. However, the couple never reached the aunt’s house. Ramdeen was taken to the Houston location where she was killed by her reputed husband.
The 20-year-old woman, according to relatives, had been with the man for about six months. During this time, they had alleged, the man physically abused her.
