Bakewell has indicated that it will soon have to increase prices for its bread. It added that advertisements announcing these increases will be placed in the press.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer Naeem Nasir in a letter addressed to the Government Information Agency yesterday, and copied to the four dailies here, stated that “at the meeting with President Bharrat Jagdeo and bakeries at the Office of the President yesterday (Monday) we did not issue a statement that we will not increase our bread prices contrary to your press release of today’s (yesterday) date.”
Nasir said in his letter that Bakewell has to increase their prices, adding that some bakeries had increased their bread prices with the flour price increase last October while its prices have remained stable since September 2008.
“Our bread prices will be increased in the near future and ads announcing these increases will be placed in the press,” the letter concluded.
