A 22-year-old man was yesterday sentenced to 14 days imprisonment after accepting that on March 7 at Georgetown, he stole a quantity of chicken gizzard and sausages valued $3,080 from Didco Trading Limited.
Samad Shaw of 15 Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara who was employed with the company until the incident pleaded guilty to the charge, explaining that he wanted to compensate his employer financially for the products stolen.
Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry before whom the matter was called at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, however, informed Shaw that he would be sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment.
The prosecution told the court that the facts were as charged after which no further details of what transpired on the day in question were given.
Shaw appeared visibly shocked after being sentenced as he was being escorted from the courtroom.
