The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has advised that an inquest be held into the death of a fruits vendor who was stabbed in the chest by a man he had reportedly robbed at the Stabroek Market on Saturday.
This is according to Crime Chief Seelall Persaud who told Stabroek News yesterday that the matter had been sent to the DPP for advice.
He explained that the DPP had advised there be an inquest to determine if anyone is criminally responsible for the death of Euburn Inniss, 26, or if he was responsible for his own death.
According to Persaud, the suspect, who turned himself over to the police shortly after the incident, has been released on station bail pending the outcome of the matter.
Police had said in a press release that an investigation has been launched into the incident, which occurred around 05:30 on Saturday morning. Investigations have revealed that Inniss, called ‘Blackboy’ and an accomplice confronted a man who was at the market, the release said. During efforts to rob the man, Inniss was stabbed to his chest. The wounded man was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Inniss died as a result of shock and haemorrhage due to a stab wound.
