Nrityageet producers hosting dance contest for new dancers

The Nadira and Indranie Shah Dance School is hosting a ‘Blaze the dance floor’ contest for new dancers.

In a press release director of the school Dr Seeta Shah Roath said dance troupes wanting to showcase their talents can “Take a leap into the spotlight as they blaze the floor putting their best foot forward and vie for an award of excellence in dance – hip hop, folk, chutney, semi-classical, popular, folk, folk-filmi, and more.”

Dancers will be judged on technique, choreography, dance theatre arts, costume, presentation and showmanship. Each area will have a minimum of ten points allocated and will be judged by Guyana’s best dance instructors, choreographers and directors.  Preliminary rounds will run from April 9-20 with semi-finals set for May 2- 4. Incentives include a cash prize of $60,000, certificates of excellence, a gold cup as will as an opportunity to perform at the 32nd annual Nitryageet show set for the National Cultural Centre at May 6.

Interested dancers are invited to send their names, address, the name of the dance, name of choreographer and the name of the song to the school via email address [email protected]  Entries close March 25.
