Dear Editor,
The 2011 general election in our country is indeed a defining moment, historically and otherwise. The electorate, especially the young adults in our midst, must accept the responsibility for their future. Sadly the incessant baiting has begun, and could very easily get out of control. Guyanese must be mindful, and concentrate their energies on the realities of the day. A determined effort must be made to bring the best minds of all the ethnic groups together. The AFC contested the election in 2006; the party was young and it certainly exuded a passion in thousands of voters who dreamed of change. This did not materialize as anticipated, so since I am not a gambling man, I personally would prefer a shift from the present dogmatic stance and urge them to join the prospective coalition and avoid possible political suicide.
However, having said all of the above we as proud Guyanese desire the best for our children and grandchildren; we are confident about the tremendous potential we possess, although I am beginning to dislike the word ‘potential.’ Let us project an air of magnanimity and by consensus choose a presidential candidate outside of the mainstream political landscape, in an attempt to attract cross-over voters, and entice the former Auditor General Anand Goolsarran who is a decent, highly intelligent and upright Guyanese. Let us as Guyanese reject the yard-fowl political discourse. Let us grab the moment.
Yours faithfully,
Lloyd W Davidson
