Dear Editor,
I have read in today’s edition of the Trinidad Express that TT minister of Agriculture Vasent Bharath had “travelled to Bali Indonesia and arrived Thursday evening to attend an Inter-national conference on agriculture.” We read further that “Bharath travelled alone and left Trinidad on Tuesday…”
Two observations came immediately to my mind.
1. The Minister saved his country’s taxpayers millions of TT dollars despite the fact his country’s oil dollars could pay for an entourage or a large delegation.
2. He did not go a week or so in advance to stay and eat in expensive hotels at the expense of his country’s taxpayers.
A question now for all our government ministers, (and even the President) going abroad to conduct government business: Could they not take a page out of this man’s (Vasant Bharath) book and read it?
Trinidad is far richer than Guyana; when would our ministers and President learn from this noble and benign and even selfless example?
Yours faithfully,
