CHENNAI, (Reuters) – England can still win the World Cup and there is no need to dwell on the upsets against Ireland and Bangladesh, spinner Graeme Swann said yesterday.
At the end of their inconsistent Group B campaign, England must win against West Indies on Thursday and then hope South Africa go by the form book and beat Bangladesh on Saturday to clear their quarter-final passage. It could have been an avoidable situation for the English side who tied their match against India and went down to Ireland and Bangladesh to jeopardise their quarter-final prospects.Swann insisted moaning can wait.“There is no point in crying over spilt milk and the two games that we lost. We need to win the four big games now and return home victorious,” the off-spinner told reporters. “It has been a long winter but there is no point in whining and moaning about it… All things considered, if we win four games, we win the World Cup. “We know we can beat anybody… we have proved that by beating South Africa and the way we played against India. It is a matter of getting both facets (bowling and batting) of the game together.”
Swann hinted England might go into the match against West Indies with two spinners.
“Certainly I hope the wicket is similar to the one we played against South Africa on. I think we will be crazy, if the wicket is like that, not to play two spinners.”
