After she was freed of a charge of possession of narcotics, a Linden woman was yesterday remanded to prison for the harbouring of wanted persons.
Nichola McQueen, 25, of South Amelia’s Ward, was preparing to walk away from the Christianburg Magistrates’ Court after Magistrate Ann McLennan ruled that a prima facie case had not been made out against her. McQueen had been accused of having in her possession 110 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking in October of last year. 3
However, after the ruling McQueen was read a charge of harbouring wanted persons. It was alleged that between August 14, 2009 and Sunday October 24, 2010, she harboured wanted criminals Kurt Thierens aka ‘Glasses’ and Collin Jones aka ‘Bunny.’
McQueen’s attorney made a bail application but Magistrate McLennan denied it after the police prosecutor told the court that the woman was a flight risk.
The prosecutor stated that McQueen lived in a squatting area at Amelia’s Ward and it was hard for police to locate her.
Her attorney, however, noted that the woman was in prison for a bailable offence since October 2010. He added that the situation saw McQueen’s private business decline in her absence.
Magistrate McLennan, however, remanded McQueen to prison until April 13, when the case will be called again.
