A rotten Guyana Power and Light (GPL) pole on Mandela Avenue last night gave way and fell on two passing vehicles, giving the occupants the shock of their lives.
It was raining at about 9:30pm last night, when the pole fell on the bonnet of a pick-up, GNN 1796, belonging to Intikhad Alli. It crushed the bonnet and bounced off, over the vehicle and onto the bonnet of a car, PMM 9749, belonging to Eldon Isaacs. “Just as we about to pass, bam, it fall,” said Alli. His wife was also in the vehicle and she was traumatised. No one was physically hurt.
An inspection of the bottom of the post found that it was rotten. Wires attached to the pole lay scattered about the roadway. About 10:15pm, GPL technicians arrived while curious motorists slowed to see what was going on.
