Ground conditions last Sunday again caused problems for some players participating in the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) 10/10 softball tournament at the Diamond Ground forcing the games to be stopped by the National Democratic Council (NDC).
An official from the Combined United Sports Club (CUSC) yesterday told Stabroek Sport that last Saturday the ground was totally flooded and games were postponed to Sunday.
According to the GT&T official present no matches would have been played if the ground was flooded on Sunday.
However it was reported that despite the ruling by the GT&T official, games involving teams which showed up were played and, according to the CUSC official, the teams demanded to play on the waterlogged field contrary to the sign at the ground posted by the NDC which ordered that no type of cricket should be played on the
ground during the rainy season.
The NDC was notified about the situation and the matches that were in progress stopped, the CUSC official reported adding that he was upset
with the fact that his team suffered the penalty of a loss by walkover.
He told Stabroek Sport that GT&T officials are expected to meet today to resolve the issue.
