A man accused by the police of having a quantity of ammunition in his possession had his case dismissed on Monday after appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.
When Isaac Dellmohamed appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, the magistrate informed him that his matter would be dismissed on the grounds that the prosecution had failed to prove that he was not licensed to have the ammunition in his possession. The magistrate said that while the prosecution established that the defendant had the items in his possession, they failed to disprove whether he was the holder of a firearm licence.
“They [the prosecution] never led evidence as relates to this [the licence],” Magistrate Octive-Hamilton said.
Having concluded the trial, she informed the defendant that the matter against him had been dismissed.
The allegation against Dellmohamed was that on September 14 last at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, he had in his possession seven 62×51 rounds of ammunition in his possession without license.
The man had always denied the charge levelled against him.
