Nationals of Jamaica and Guyana will soon have to be in possession of a visa, when visiting the Dutch/French-controlled St.Maarten, according to www.sxmislandtime.com.
This was revealed by the island’s Prime Minister, Sarah W Williams, who has the portfolio for national security. There are hundreds of Guyanese living on the Dutch side of the island St Maarten and on the French side St Martin. Many thousands of Guyanese also visit each year to see relatives and to shop for goods that are relatively cheaper there.
According to the report, in addressing the visa subject on the programme “People’s Voice” last Sunday with Lloyd Richardson, the Prime Minister said that the process for the visa requirement has already been started by the ministry of justice.
According to the prime minister, just recently a missive was forwarded to the Dutch Minister of Kingdom relations, Piet Han Donner in relations to the entry permit for nationals of the two countries.
The report said that a visa requirement is currently in place for nationals of the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The report did not say when exactly visas will be needed.
